גְּנַןch. sam(גנן to protect, surround). Targ. Zech. 8:4. Af. אגֵּין same. Targ. O. Gen. 7:16 (some ed. אָגֵין, fr. גִּין, Y. I אַגִּין, h. text סגר). Targ. Ex. 33:22. Targ. Is. 1:6; a. fr. (interchanging with אָגֵין).Sot.21a אגּוּנֵי מַגְּנָא does protect, contrad. fr. אצולי to rescue. Keth.77b אגוני לא מגנא will it (the Law) not protect (me)? Ab. Zar.15b bot. מגנו עלייהו they (the bucklers) protect them. Ib. 16a מגנו עילוון they (the Persian soldiers) protect us.
